New Lane - Char Koay Teow

Char kway teow, (CKT) literally "fried flat noodles", is a popular noodle dish in Malaysia and Singapore. It is made from flat rice noodles (called Shāhé fěn or hé fěn in Chinese), approximately 1 cm or slightly narrower in width, fried over very high heat with light and dark soy sauce, chilli, prawns, cockles, egg, bean sprouts and Chinese chives.

We're not sure if the taste of the CKT is inconsistent or what... but the taste is not as aromatic as we remembered it to be and it was very oily. At RM4.00 per plate, don't think it's worth it.

New Lane - Chee Cheong Fun

Chee cheong fun are square rice sheets which are used in asian cuisine. The sheets are made from a viscous mixture of rice flour and water. This liquid is poured onto a specially-made flat pan in which it is steamed to produce the square rice sheets. Chee cheong fun can be served with different flavour of sauce. In Penang, Chee Cheong Fun is served with "hae ko", oil, sesame seetd & chilli sauce. Chee cheong fun @ New Lane is very popular amongst the locals. However, we found it to be a little too oily, which spoils the taste.

New Lane Tong Sui

Tong Sui is a popular dessert amongst Penangites. Served either cold or hot, it is also very healthy especially when we are feeling heaty. Usually served with red beans, dried longans, & 'phek koay', these desserts are very refreshing. We especially love their 'phek koay' which is drenched & marinated in syrup first before serving them. Of course if you want additional 'phek koays' u need to pay additional RM1.00.
